For the third time we retuned to the beautiful location of Manly beach for this year's conference although the weather not as hospitable as we would have liked.
This year we had 95 attends 30 from the trade 65 members and non-members - a good attendance by any measure.
Our 12 exhibitors put on a great displays this year with lots of disposables and hardware on show for people play with and dream over. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the companies once again for their participation in the trade exhibition and hope your patronage will continue.
Our programme this year was once again outstanding with a 4 hour session on Friday and 8 hour session on Saturday. Overall the meeting was a good reflection on the challenges ahead in our profession as we enter the year 2000. This years ASCVP sponsored speaker was Mr. Al Stammers. Al present 3 topics and left the audience amazed by the amount information in his presentations. Al not only attended the meeting but also made himself readily available to anyone on any perfusion topic. He was often seen in a huddle with members from student to senior levels. As sponsored speakers go I think the ASCVP got far more in return then the US return airfare and 4 night accommodation and registration invested in Al.
The Saturday night dinner was the outstanding event on the social calendar with the start of pre dinner drinks and moving into the debate. This years debate (Which takes the most skill Paed’s or Adult perfusion) would have to be one the best so far with each team putting forward excellent arguments. The decision on the winner was close but with an audience predominantly of Adult perfusionists there could be only one winner regardless. The Adult’s! A big thank you to our pead team John Dittmar, Jude Clark and Roy Nicholls the adult team Peter Angelopoulos, Rona Steel and Tony McMillan
After the Awards the night went off into party mode with members continuing late into the night.
For those of you who missed Tim’s victory dance late in the evening I’m told it was Green Lane’s version of the HAKA!
In closing I would again like to thank our major sponsors Baxter HealthCare, Cobe Cardiovascular, Device Technologies, Hospital Supplies of Australia (Pall Filters) Medtronic Australasia, Terumo Corporation and NSW society of Clinical Cardiac Perfusionists.
Yours sincerely
Darryl McMillan
